The Bishop of Bangor, the Right Reverend Andy John, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Reverend Dr Kevin Ellis as Ministry Area Leader of the Bro Eleth Ministry Area.
Kevin will be leading the mission and ministry of the church community serving the communities around Amlwch, Llanerchymedd and Moelfre. It is expected that Kevin will begin his new role in the autumn.
Kevin has been the Ministry Area Leader of Bro Cybi (Holy Island and Holyhead) for three years, and had previously ministered in the Diocese of Birmingham.
Looking forward to this new chapter in his ministry, Kevin said, “In three years in Bro Cybi, I have come to appreciate that Anglesey is the island where the skies, sands and sea meet. It is a place where the stories of the saints are interwoven with the landscape.
It has a been a pleasure to walk alongside the people and communities of Bro Cybi, and I am saddened to be leaving. During that time we have established a Messy Church congregation, begun work amongst teenagers, further embedded pastoral care by a committed team and tried new ways of worship. I will hold the Rev’d Jane Bailey (Assistant Priest), the ministry team, wardens, congregations and people of Bro Cybi in my prayers as Jennifer and I move on.
In the midst of this sadness is the anticipation of what might happen as we walk with the different communities of Bro Eleth. I am excited by the challenge that lies ahead and look forward to living, learning and leading in a new context, as we seek to be God’s people together.”
Looking forward to this new role for Kevin, the Venerable Paul Davies, Archdeacon of Bangor and Anglesey and Chair of the Anglesey Synod, said “The people of Bro Cybi will be very sad to lose Kevin as their Ministry Area Leader.
I’m sure, however that they will join me in gratitude to God that he will remain a loyal and valued member of the Anglesey Synod at a time when the churches of Anglesey are working more closely together than ever before.
I am deeply grateful to Kevin for his considerable contribution to Bro Cybi; for responding to the call to serve in Bro Eleth; and for his commitment to learning Welsh over the last three years, without which this move to Bro Eleth would not have been possible.”
Commenting on Kevin’s new appointment, the Bishop of Bangor, the Right Reverend Andy John, said, “I’m sure that for many people this new appointment will be unexpected. All of us are on a Christian pilgrimmage and journey and we know that Kevin’s journey is deeply rooted in prayer.
Bro Cybi’s loss is very much Bro Eleth’s gain. I am confident that under Kevin’s leadership – working with the Rev’d Pauline Jones and all of the ministry team – we will see Bro Eleth develop and flourish.
Please do pray for Jennifer and Kevin, and the people of Bro Eleth and the mission and ministry of the church in north-east Anglesey.
Please also pray for the people and ministry team of Bro Cybi, as they continue God’s work there whilst we seek a new Ministry Area Leader for their team and Ministry Area.”
