Bishop Andy comments on the attacks in Paris

The Bishop of Bangor, the Right Reverend Andrew John, has issued the following statement following last Friday night’s terrorist attacks in Paris.

“Like many other people my prayers are for all of those caught up in the terrible events in Paris on Friday night – for those who have died and their families, those who have been injured as well as the emergency services in that city.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus encourages us to love our enemies. Yet it is so difficult to feel any love towards the people who carry out such awful attacks. All that can be said is that such people cannot be considered a part of any faith which has Love at its heart.

Paris is a special place and a city that I enjoy visiting. Liberté, Egalité and Fraternité are  Christian and human values, which are the basis of any good community. Nothing must be allowed to detract from their importance in France, Wales or any other country.”
