In special services at Bangor Cathedral today (Sunday 7th June 2015) the Bishop of Bangor, the Right Rev’d Andy John, and the Bishop of Meath and Kildare (Church of Ireland), the Most Rev’d Pat Storey, have launched a new link between the 2 dioceses.
Addressing the Cathedral’s Welsh congregation, Bishop Pat (who was the first female Anglican Bishop in Ireland and Britain) told the story of her journey to ordination, and then to the United Diocese of Meath and Kildare (you can listen to Bishop Pat by clicking here).
Bishop Pat then preached at the Cathedral’s Choral Eucharist (click here to hear her sermon). To inaugurate the new link between the Dioceses, Bishop Andy presented Bishop Pat with a Pastoral Staff which had been specially made in the Diocese of Bangor (click here to hear the presentation).
Bishop Pat is on a 3-day visit with a team of 4 people from her Diocese,
- Earl Storey (Diocesan Director of Communications)
- Kevin Bowers (Chair of Diocesan Finance Committee)
- Archdeacon Leslie Stevenson (who is also Rector of Portarlington)
- Canon John Clarke (Rector of Navan Union)
It is hoped that both Dioceses will be able to learn from each other in a time of change, whilst always ensuring that passing on the Good News of the Gospel is always at the heart of our mission and ministry in our Dioceses.
